Exploring Film technique
Bunny: This short film brought me joy. I have a rabbit at home and she just makes me smile every time I see her. I found it funny that the bunny in this film get agitated very easily, my own rabbit will go ballistic if try to move her hay/shredded cardboard pile. Every time I clean her room she always goes in and rather quickly, rearranges all of the nicely stacked toys. The bunny in this film got annoyed with the moth and when she finally killed it and it fell into the cake batter, she got mad and started stirring aggressively. Some of the film techniques I found interesting that behind the picture frame, in the hallway, the paint was a bright cream color and the wall around the frame was a dull dusty brown. This was a great way to show the age of the bunny and the house. Another film technique I found cool was the inside of the oven. The speckled paint inside the oven, was also inside the tunnel leading to what I can assume is the "after life". The speckled paint even turned into stars once bunny got out of the tunnel.
Harold and Maude: This short film was very interesting to watch. I liked that it was in black and white because I feel like that added to the ambiance of the movie, the movie is about death and life. The scene with the flowers and the graves was genius. The field of white flowers turning into a field of tombstones, really shows the sacred and the profane. I also thought it was cool that just as the camera had zoomed in on the flower to show its uniqueness and then zoomed out to show that they are all the same, the camera did the same thing to the tombstones. The scene with the boy and his mother was very comedic. When he looked into the camera it brought the audience in to the boys feelings. We have all thought we were funny in doing something, then looked at our mothers and saw that "look" and knew we had done wrong.
Northfork: This movie was weird. Angels of death and western theme make for an interesting narrative. One specific scene I most enjoyed was when the two men were walking into the angels' house. When he opened the door you could clearly see that the outside of the house was light and bright. The inside of the house however was very dark and dusty. Even where the windows light had shown through, it was dark. This was a great way to show that the house was full of "death".
Paris Texas: This film had many great techniques. One of the most prominent was when the husband went to see the wife and they were separated by a piece of mirror/glass. Travis had the knowledge that his wife could not see him, so he evened the playing field and turned the chair around so that they both could not see each other. The mirror also was symbolism to the divide between the couples relationship. Almost like he knew where she was and she thought he was long gone. One thing I found interesting is that when the husband is confronted, his knees buckle a little. This showed the uncertainty in the characters build-up.
Pink Floyd: This movie did a great job at showing the lyrics to the songs of Pink Floyd. During the song another brick wall, the images showed the children being pushed through a conveyor belt, thus representing that the education system is just cranking out kids. This movie also adds animation to the aspect, thus adding another layer of creative freedom. The animation took what was in the main characters mind, and transferred it to image.
